Light of Love

There are always things coming home for contests that the kids can enter. Writing contests, art contests, photography...you get the idea. We don't usually participate - I guess it's just one more thing on an almost always full plate. But, last week we got one exclusively for 4th graders and it had to be less than 100 words! That is perfect for us! They were asked to write about someone important in their lives and submit it to the "Light of Love" essay contest. Here is what Andrew wrote:

My Brother

My brother Zachary has influenced me so many times I can't count. Whenever I am doing something my brother is there cheering me on. My brother is such a nice person and has a great imagination. He is one of the most important people to me. I love my brother with all my heart and I wouldn't trade him for anything. So when it comes down to someone important, my brother is one of my first picks.

So cute. I feel the love...

On the road again...

Today I was on the road again for stake YW stuff. We went up to the site of next year's youth conference with the youth committee to check out the location. It is way up there! It's about 2 hours and 45 minutes north of me!! Anything north of me is up there, but this is WAY up there! We are lucky enough to have members of the church who own a canoe outfitters for the boundary waters and are willing to let us come up for free next year. They can sleep and outfit all 100 of us. We will still have quite a bit of planning to do, but the location is set.

Here's a little view of what we will be looking at! Hopefully we'll spend more time with this view instead of the view from a tipped canoe! I'll be picking my canoe mates carefully!! It feels crazy to be back into the mode of youth conference, but we are! The regular planning meetings start next month...keeping me on the road again!

A good day...

Yep, I'm 37 today! It's been a really nice birthday and I have felt really loved. I had a busy Monday morning, but then was surprised by a few friends who talked me into skipping my workout and joining them for lunch! We had a really fun time and then I came home to 8 missed calls. Love, love, love. That's what I felt from all the birthday wishes. I talked with my parents and a few other people and then Greg was on his way home.

After he got home, my family showered me with little presents...the kids each picked something out for me. It was so cute to see what they chose. Greg said each of them really took their time picking out just the right thing...so, so sweet. Greg got me some wonderful new cookware!! I have been wanting to stop eating my teflon for so long!! It's perfect (he even did the research) - and he was really happy to show me all of it's features!

Later we went to dinner and then they had an ice-cream cake for me. It doesn't get much better than that. Oh, and with all the technology available to connect with friends from all over, I have gotten about 70 birthday wishes today too...so nice! So, 37 isn't known for being a "big" birthday, but it sure has been a great one!

One man's trash...

This past Friday we had a rummage sale at the kid's elementary school. It was something I brought to the table at a board meeting for the foundation and they basically said, "If you will do it, we'd love to do it". So I did it!

It was a long week, with quite a few hours put in (28 for the week), but it was a success and I even think we are going to do it again in the spring!

It made for a busy week, but I really enjoy doing something good for the school and I enjoy the time with the other parents who volunteer. It's a great feeling to be a part of the community and to put my energy into something that benefits the kids and their school. I'm happy that in this case, one man's trash was another man's treasure!
