Chicago and Queen

We went to Chicago for a quick 24 hour trip.  We left on Friday afternoon and made it in time for a delicious dinner at a ramen place and then we headed to see Queen with the Sanchezes and the Burkes.

The concert was SO good!  From the beginning to the end...just excellent!

At one point, they asked us all to turn our phone lights on and it was like they had turned the lights on in the arena...it was crazy.

They had some amazing laser shows too!

Freddy Mercury is a pretty impossible person to take the place for, but Adam Lambert was so incredibly good.  I loved it all.

Walking out of the United Center...

Then we walked around the waterfront...

And went to the exact place where Bill proposed to Sarah.  They recreated it for us!

We went to a super late bonus dinner (at midnight) and ended with this enourmous piece of cake!

It was a yummy treat at the end of a super fun day.

The next morning the Burkes went to go and see Sarah's sister, but we went with the Sanchezes to brunch at Rick Bayless's restaurant.  Ummmm...delicious!

We drove home in a food coma and sang Queen songs the whole way.  Perfect!

Reupholstery project

Andrew's roof liner had fallen in his car and so he ripped it off - leaving the exposed foam.  Then, that became the perfect surface to scratch your name into or draw a picture in...leaving it quite beautiful.  Since he is thinking of selling his car, we knew it needed to be replaced to get the best value.  I did a little bit of research and figured out how to do it and where to buy the materials.  Greg removed the entire liner - so the liner could be done right - and not just have material stretched across it.  Andrew and I got busy and scraped the old foam off and got it ready to reupholster.

It was a messy job, but really didn't take too long and it cleaned up quite well.

Then we used a spray adhesive and recovered the headliner with a fabric backed foam.  It looked brand new!

Then Andrew and Greg reinstalled it in his car.

Taa daa!  A few hours, $36 and it looks $500 better!

Friday and Saturday

We spent most of Friday visiting with the Gores (Greg actually went to Wisconsin and worked) and enjoyed just hanging out, talking and having a great time.

Davey D relaxing...

Carrie joined in on the conversation too...

The kids all played and had a blast!  It was a nice relaxing day after the hustle and bustle of a few days.

That night, we went to dinner with the Bachelders, Sparhawks, Sieberts, Gores and were supposed to meet the Davises, but Elsie had the wrong night written down.  We figured it out and decided to meet for dessert after.  We all went back to the Gores and had fried ice-cream.  Elsie was dying over how tall all of the kids were.  It was really funny.  We had a great night and it was so great to spend time with all of the old gang.

Saturday morning I got up and went to breakfast with Amy Fink - who couldn't make it to lunch on Wednesday when I got in - and then we all went to the farm to hang out with family.  The kids all played and drove around and the adults mostly talked and enjoyed each other's company.

On the way out of town I stopped at a little shop Cortney told me about and I got these cute shoes.  Bonus!

When we got back to Duluth, Zach and Andrew went out with friends, Greg and Ava went to Canal Park and I went out with Mim.  We had sushi and she made this delicious cake for dessert.  Then we went to the movies and talked.  Just like old times!

We left early Sunday morning and headed back to Indiana.  We had a wonderful trip and saw so many people that we love and cherish.  It was a great way to spend the week.
