Trust can be a funny thing

10 days ago Zach was spinning in the AT&T store - like all kids love to do - lost his balance, hit his head on a cabinet and had to get a few staples in his head. This was our first stitches/staples experience in the Bacon family! Today was the day to have the staples removed. Zach and I talked about it before the appointment and I tried to assure him that it would be quick and that it wouldn't hurt. When the doctor came in, Zach was very nervous and I could tell that "meltdown" could be around the corner. I again told him it would be quick and that it wouldn't hurt and immediately gave the doctor the "how bad is it really going to be?" look. She gave me the "no big deal" look and so I sat Zach on my lap and asked him if he trusted me. He looked me right in the eyes and said "yes". I told him that it wouldn't hurt and to just trust me. At that point he relaxed quite a bit and the doctor went to remove the first staple. The removal was quick and it didn't hurt at all. I don't know who was more relieved - Zach or me. I had told Zach to trust me on something that I didn't know anything about. I was just trusting the doctor. It was one of those moments when you realize how much you rely on other people and their knowledge and sometimes you just have to trust that they know more than you.

Zach was happy to bring the staples home and show Dad how brave he was. He held his staples with pride!

Happy Birthday Ava!

I can't believe that Ava is 1! I know everyone always says that, but it is true. She has brought so much joy into our family and we couldn't have been happier than to celebrate with extended family in Duluth. Ava's favorites from the party were the cousins to play with, balloons, baby dolls and of course - frosting!

No one has ever accused me of being afraid to shop

I would consider myself an avid online shopper. I will buy anything online - I have even bought a car. However, I had never heard of the site Etsy.com. My niece, Marisa, told me about the site this week and I have been hooked ever since. It is an Ebay-esque site where everything is hand-made. Crafter's heaven. There are some really wonderful finds and of course some really odd crafts, but definitely worth the look!

Bi-polar house hunting

Since there aren't very many houses on the market that meet our needs, we have literally looked at each and every one of the houses that even comes close. The houses have been so different that sometimes I feel like I must have house-hunting bi-polar disorder. You would never pick this string of houses as being similar...only by number of bedrooms and square feet! Here is just a taste of my new found disorder...

We have also named each of the houses we have gone and seen. It makes it easier to talk about the houses later. You are now seeing "The Cabin", "Contemporary", "Wedding Cake", "60's", "70's Nightmare", "The 500", "1902" and "2502".

The Northland

We've now been in the "Northland" for almost a month. It hasn't really sunk in yet - it all feels like an extended vacation that doesn't have an end date. I guess staying in a hotel helps generate that feeling. Even in the middle of what I would still consider winter temperatures, Duluth is a very beautiful place. Lake Superior is amazing and I can see why tourism is Duluth's biggest industry. Start planning your summer vacations!
