Chicago day trip

Ethan came home with us after Kickapoo Park on Saturday and spent the weekend.  Zach had been asking to go to Chicago for months to do a little shoe shopping and Labor Day ended up being the perfect day for it.  Adding Ethan to the mix made it all that much better for him.  They had a great time, found the perfect shoes, and made some memories.

Ava came home and shared these pictures with me...she has a great eye!

Zach ended up sending me some pictures too...here are his!

Notice his shoe theme?

Let's Bake!

I've had some recipes that I've been wanting to try and today was the day!

Coconut macaroons - half with semi sweet chocolate chips.  They are really good...chewy, rich, and really coconutty!

I had Ava in with me helping, and we tried making some candied lemon too.

This was after 90 minutes of being boiled down.  It yielded a lemon syrup (but we didn't love that...too sweet).

After they rested for 15 minutes, we sugared them...

and then let them finish drying.  They are really nice.  Sweet, tart, lemony...yummy!  It was quite a day in the kitchen when you add in a lasagna and french bread, but we ate well last night.  Always a nice way to spend the end of a Fast Sunday.

Kickapoo Park

The Sanchezes asked us if we wanted to meet up for a fun day at Kickapoo Park.  It's almost exactly half way between us and was the perfect way to spend a Saturday with friends.

We rented kayaks and paddleboards for the afternoon...

hung out and ate a good lunch...

enjoyed nature...

played some games...

looked at me for taking pictures...

played soccer...

 and just enjoyed being together!

Socially distanced seminary

We got permission to meet as a combined seminary group (with the other 2 classes from the wards that meet in our building) on Wednesday evenings.  This was our first meeting and I thought it went really well.  The kids were definitely happy to be together and were totally compliant with distancing.  Here's hoping we can continue to meet this way once a week and have a little piece of new normalcy mixed in with Zoom!

Just what I needed

Tuesday was kind of a gloomy weather day and I was feeling pretty sad (even after beating Greg at cribbage) because Greg needed to go out of town (bad timing with it being the same day Andrew left).  Then...this happened!

Beth sent me some beautiful, sunny flowers!

Later, the clouds went away (like they always do) and I got a beautiful pastel sunset.

It was exactly what I needed.

Evidence!

Greg, Andrew and I played a lot of cribbage while Andrew was in the MTC.  Greg and I started a new game on Tuesday after lunch and I wanted to document my win.  Originally, it was to send Andrew a picture, but I like a good picture too!

Welcome to Arizona!

Andrew made it safely to Tucson and is here with his mission president and his wife, President and Sister Grisel.  He looks super happy which is all I needed to see.  I can't wait to hear about his first week and will be looking forward to Monday.

God be with you

Since I can hardly find the words mixed in all the different emotions, and they say a picture is worth a thousand...here are 1100 to sum up saying goodbye.
