It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

We spent a good part of Friday and Saturday getting the house ready for Christmas.  It was Ava's turn for putting the star on the tree.  That's always a big deal around here.

Up it goes...

Perfect!

We hung fresh garland outside - this porch is begging for it!

The trees went up in the kids' rooms too.

The biggest decorating project was getting the railings decorated.  I'm thrilled with how they turned out!

I love having the house decorated for Christmas.  It feels so homey to me and really helps get me into the Christmas spirit.  Merry Christmas!

The Carmel High School football team made it to the state finals this year.  We went to the game on Friday night at the Lucas Oil Stadium - Where the Colts play.

We had amazing 2nd row seats and got to see the game up close and personal.

The game was really back and forth - with fumbles, turn overs, highs and lows, but eventually ended up in over time.  The state finals in over time is about as intense as it gets for high school football!  It was a great game!

This is right after 33 made what would turn out to be a game winning play!

Carmel won in overtime - a very fun, exciting game to be at!

Here are some of the kids with their friends.  It was a super fun game and being with friends and family made it all the better.

Happy Thanksgiving

My parents flew in for Thanksgiving and my dad and I spent most of the day on Wednesday prepping and cooking.  We made a million mashed potatoes (and spent quite a bit of time adding extra potatoes and perfecting the consistency and taste), did a cheesecake, pumpkin roll, prepped the turkey, got the spinach ready for the next day and even had time to put some flowers together!

Here is Zach doing his best drying turkey impression.

On Thanksgiving, we got up and did the stuffing, made rolls, finished the creamed spinach and of course fried the turkey.  Then it was time to set the tables and wait for our friends to arrive.

We had both the Adams and the Wise families over.  They each brought their families' favorite dishes and James cooked another turkey.

We had lots of mashed potatoes and they were delicious!

Welcome to the kids' table!

Almost ready to eat!

For me, this is the perfect plate.  It's Thanksgiving bliss.  We have so much to be thankful for and feel so blessed to have my parents, and new friends sharing the holiday with us.  Happy Thanksgiving!!

Applesauce time!

Prepping...

Boiling...

Straining with style...

And before you know it, 22 quarts of applesauce!

Whew!

Ward service project

Time to rake the leaves!

There are some families in our ward that have lots of trees and a good amount of property, but the homeowners aren't able to rake easily.  There was a ward service project and our family went and helped.

There was a great turn out, and the kids had lots of friends there.

Ava and Sammy

There was also some wood stacking happening at one of the homes.

Look at how many leaves we bagged at one house!!!  It was crazy!

Once the raking was done, the kids quickly started a game of football.

There was even a fire (which at one point was HUGE - as they put the leaf blowers under it and burned massive amounts of branches) and the kids had fun roasting marshmallow.  It was a great morning of service with friends.
