I started classes this past week again and am right back into the swing of things. These classes look like they are going to be quite a bit of work, but they should be interesting. I had to make paper for one of my classes (paleography) to get an idea of why documents were so precious. When you are making your own paper, it takes a lot of time and you are careful about what you decide to record. That was the point of the assignment. For me, I was just excited to do a craft for the first time in a college class! I can do this type of homework anytime!
Duluth boys
Dave Gore was out giving a presentation at BYU and Andrew went. These other boys from Duluth were also there. Spencer and Devin Johnson and Sean Faerber all got to hang out for a bit after the presentation. It's so fun that Andrew can connect with friends from Duluth while he's in Utah.
More pictures from Andrew
Andrew sent me these pictures of activites he has been doing. He went to an outdoor party and made smores on this cool firepit...
And went and watched the away football game with a huge crowd on campus. He's having a lot of fun! I remember all of the fun things I did during this time of my life and am so glad he is making the same types of memories.
Solomon's game
We went to see Solomon play football and waited after the game to see him. He came off the field and was excited, but was also feeling pretty shy.
It was cute - he gave us a wave and a smile and then ran past us. We waiting with Bindi, Susie and Joe until he came out and then we got to visit with him for a bit. It's really fun to see him play and to get to spend some time with great friends.
Halloween crafts
I've been working on these Halloween crafts that Holly and I got the supplies for while I was in Utah. I love how they are turning out and can't wait to put them up!
What a relief
I noticed that there was water bubbling over out of the sump pump drain outside and was worried that we were having the same problem we had 2 years ago when the pipes settled and broke away from the house. We had a plumber come out to put a camera down the line and see if there was a break and where it was. Lucky for us, he found this cluster of roots! Something had fallen down the pipe and hadn't gotten flushed through and had formed roots. It was as simple as cutting the pipe that was above ground and pulling it out - all fixed! What a relief that we didn't need to dig 4 feet down and do a major repair. It was a blessing to us!
Ava and the Williams
Ava had Kathleen and Camille over and spent hours down stairs just talking and laughing. These girls are like sisters. I love when the kids are hanging out with their friends - it really brings me joy.
An epic win!
These are pictures from t.v. BYU won against USC in overtime and the students rushed the field. Andrew was right in the middle of it all (of course) and got to be a part of this epic win. What a fun college memory - it's a game he will always remember!
Kayleigh's baptism
We were so excited to attend Kayleigh's baptism! It is a day she has been waiting for and is so prepared for. We couldn't be happier for her.
I got her this bracelet and box...
This picture of her really captures her joy and spirit. She is a great girl and really does bring happiness everywhere she goes.
We love Kayleigh and are so happy to have been a part of her special day.
A blast from the past
One of my friends posted this picture on facebook the other day and I loved seeing it. 7 of these kids are now BYU students! Who knew they would be all end up in the same place all these years later. What a great group of kids!
Painting rocks
My cute laurels painting rocks to remind them of important things in their lives. What a fun way to spend a night.
Mim!
Mim and Al were driving through Indy and they got a hold of Greg and I and we met them for lunch. It was so much fun to see them and get to spend a couple of hours together. Mim was showing me these Indiana stamps she bought 3 years ago when we moved here (because they reminded her of us). She just found them again and had them with her. I love Mim and it was so wonderful to see her!
Dog love
We love this dog and he loves us!
He will beg Greg to play tug of war with him (and Greg usually will). It's really cute and fun and he sure brings us a lot of happiness.
More pictures from Andrew
More fun at the soccer games...
Bri was in town for a football game and got together with Andrew...so fun!
1 more year
Because Andrew graduated a year early, colleges don't realize that he is already attending college, so we get mail for him every single day! I wish there was some way to inform them that he isn't interested, but there isn't. Just 1 more year and then we should finally stop getting college mail for him!
An exciting new book
Dave Gore wrote a book and I had pre-ordered it on Amazon...and it finally came! I'm excited to read it and am super happy for him.
The main attraction
Sarah sent me these pictures of Greg while I was out of town too. On Labor Day, a few families got together and Greg drove his bike over to the BBQ. I guess a little while into the party, the kids came and asked Greg if he would take them for rides.
They literally lined up and waited for their rides. Greg was the main attraction at the BBQ...pretty fun for the kids and for Greg!
Who knew straws could do that?
Greg sent me these pictures while I was in Utah. Ava went to the Sanchezes house and wrapped her hair around straws and slept in them. This was the result...crazy!!
After she ran her fingers trhough the curls, this is what it looked like.
The next day it had relaxed into this look! That's some serious hair!!
Meanwhile, I was at Holly's house doing hair for her girls.
They picked their hair styles online and I did them. They were really happy and impressed, but I was definitely impressed by Ava!!
Off to college
Our plane ride was fun - we played lots of cards and shared some treats. Here is Andrew catching the first glimpse of the mountains.
We got into Utah, went to Beth and Rick's house to pick up the large amount of boxes we had shipped there from Amazon, went to Costco and Walmart to pick up the last minute items we needed and then headed to Bridgette and Britt's house for the night. Bridgette made us some really yummy pizzas in her new pizza oven and we tried out their theater. We ended up sleeping right in the theater and then got up the next morning and met Holly.
We drove to Andrew's dorm and while Holly and I were getting the last few things out of the car, Andrew was helping someone with directions. It was a proud mama moment and I really did have the thought that he was ready to be out on his own.
Here we are with everything he is going to have for the year!
I've been to this intersection 1000 times, but it felt really different driving by and knowing this is where Andrew is going to be.
We got Andrew all settled in, then went and met Steve Hoffman for lunch and went back to the dorm to put the finishing touches on his room.
Beautiful finishing touches like this treasure Andrew decided to bring from our garage!
Andrew and his new roommate Tyler.
Downstairs in the common area of the dorm. It's a pretty nice set up with lots of seating, some games, a piano and a huge t.v.
Here's the outside...Andrew went to play some football with his roommate and Holly and I left and spent the rest of the night relaxing and talking.
The next day, I went back to campus and went to the opening orientation for freshman and parents. Andrew and I figured out where each other were sitting and waved, but I didn't actually talk to him this day. The orientation was good and after I went back to Holly's.
That's a big school!
Holly and I went to Zupas that night and I drowned my sorrows about Andrew in their cauliflower soup!
The next day was my girls' day out! I met Holly, Mandy, Tammy and Kodi for breakfast - where we stayed and talked for hours...
then we went to get pedicures. I loved this sign! After, we went and got cookies and sat and talked for a few more hours.
Andrew spent the day doing cool stuff at BYU - including being a part of the Y.
On Saturday I spent the whole day with Grandpa and Jeri. I was wonderful. The dog was enteraining us all and we had a great time just sitting, visiting and enjoying being together.
Andrew sent me some pictures from the BYU/Utah game ...
And from the soccer game the next night. I knew he'd love the all sports pass and he definitely put it to good use the first few nights!
On Sunday morning I was talking to Greg and finally had a really good cry. I knew I was going to say goodbye to Andrew the next day and it was hitting me hard!
Holly and I drove back down to campus and took Andrew to Cafe Rio. Oh how I love this boy.
When we were finally saying goodbye, Holly jumped out of the car and snapped this picture without us knowing. I had a really good cry (and so did Holly - I was so glad she was with me) and we drove back to her house. I got my bags together and headed to the airport shortly after.
I could not be more proud of Andrew and my heart could not have been more torn apart - all at the same time. Apron strings are painful to cut.
