A Christmas to remember...

This was a big Christmas for us, with some really special gifts, so there are LOTS of pictures following...probably more than anyone except one of us would ever care to look at!  Here's the tree before the kids came down.

And the stockings!

Our annual "top of the stairs" photo!

Duchess wanted to join in on the fun!

Here come the kids!!

Santa's presents were first...

A doll for Ava...

I-pod speakers for Andrew...

And "real" tools for Zach!

Then the passing of the presents began!

Here's Ava passing out because she got this hair dresser's chair for her dolls.  She has literally carried this chair (with a doll in place) since she opened this present 2 days ago!  Good gift buying Andrew and Zach!

Hugs for a new pillow pet...

Excitement over barbies...

The thank you hugs are always a favorite part of our morning...

Andrew got a much needed new bike!

And Zach got his first pocket knife...something that makes his mom a little nervous, but his dad feels completely comfortable with.  Zach was elated.

Greg is showing Zach all of the gadgets in his Swiss Army knife!

Ava gives the boys hugs for the new pillow pet too...

This may have been #1 on Andrew's list...new football gloves!

Now comes the biggie!  The was the last present...and they all got to open it together!

First there were pirate hats, shirts and eyepatches...and another wrapped box inside...

That next box contained their swim suits (which gave one of my favorite comments of the morning when Ava said, "I already have a swim suit just like this one" - we had to tell her it WAS her suit!  There was another wrapped box inside this package as well!

Then came the travel games!  The kids knew it must mean we were going on a trip, but they were clueless as to where!  Another wrapped gift inside...

Not that far inside!!

This one had lanyards and Disney pins in it.  They kids knew right away that it meant Disney, but Land or World???

Just one more package to open...

Not Land or World...but OCEAN!!!  Andrew went straight for the hug while Ava and Zach literally sat with their mouths hanging open.  I love this picture.  Love it.

Then Ava passed out again from the excitement!  Twice on one Christmas morning...that's pretty great!

Andrew could not stay in one place while I told them about all that we would be doing...I believe Ava is mid scream (as evident by her neck)...it was awesome.

Totally worth the money, effort, extra craft projects and secrets!!!

And just when they thought it was as good as it could get, Grandma and Grandpa Craig's gifts were in their stockings!

Souvenir money!!

We had some big hugs and some good tears...

Later that afternoon, the kids all sat around and chose their pins for their lanyards.  It was really fun.

Then it was time for our tradition of cinnamon rolls and quiche.  Andrew was excited to help me cut the rolls!

Mmmm...quiche...

And mmmm...cinnamon rolls!

We had a wonderful day and it was so much fun to surprise the kids with the vacation.  I hope it's something they will never forget...I certainly won't!  We are really excited to be thinking about packing already and trying to figure out all of the adventures we will have.  It was a magical day spent sharing gifts, eating yummy food, playing new games, enjoying each other's company and spending time as a family - and we even got to spend about an hour on skype with my parents!!  A perfect Christmas in my book!

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve is always a day that is busy in the kitchen for me.  I spend most of the day in there and Greg and the kids come in and out, helping (especially with the dishes) and doing the other things needed to get the house ready for dinner.  The boys were especially excited to help set the tables this year.  Here is the teenager table...

And the main table (with the kids' table in the background).  We had 16 for dinner this year...our smallest number since we started hosting this 4 years ago.  Missions and marriages have diminished our numbers in the Davis family and my parents were with us 2 years ago too.  Next year everyone will be home...I don't know if they will all be at my house, but we will gladly make room if we are lucky enough to be hosting them!

We started with the cheese course...a course that has grown over the years at my house.  Growing up, there was a cheese plate, but our love of cheese had made this into a course!

Here's the limpa and sheepherder's bread...

And after it was cut...this picture is really for my dad too...he can appreciate the breads that he taught me how to make!

The roast and sausage dip...just waiting for that bread!
We served dinner and then all that was left was...

Dessert!  Rice pudding, poetry, cinnamon and sugar, cream...

And cookie trays!

Beth's family sent us costumes this year for our Christmas gift.  It was a wonderful gift and a great addition to our nativity story.  The kids had a great time getting dressed up and Richard did a wonderful job of reading the story for us.

It is a blessing to be with friends on Christmas Eve.  We consider it an honor to spend that special time with people we love and to get to share our traditions with friends.

After everyone went home, my family sat down and I read 'How Come Christmas' and then the kids went to bed.  It was a wonderful day.
