Time for haircuts!

When you can make a mound of hair like this on top of your son's head, it's time for haircuts!  I had already clipped the sides in this picture, but it gives you a good idea of how long it was.

Before cutting the top...

And after.

Even Ava had a few inches cut off...

All trimmed up!

And then Zach came inside and got some product in his hair and really let his new style come thru!

House Projects...the beginning of many posts!

These were the old kitchen cabinets (a section that was hanging over a countertop - dividing the room) that we are going to keep and paint this color and put into the laundry room.  I'm really excited for how this project will turn out.  Stay tuned...

We also went down into the basement and using a piece of sheet rock, we drew out how we want the basement to be!  Fun to plan!!

These next few pictures are a bit hard to see, but if you look closely, you'll find bedrooms, closets, storage, and the furnace room.

The boys' room...painting complete!

Ava's room - the paint looks quite a bit darker in this picture than it is in real life...

Here's a better view of the yellow...and her new, pink closet!

And the office.  Painted again in a variation of the office color we have put in the last 4 houses.  I love this color and have never tired of it!

We will have projects coming out the wazoo over the next little while, and it's fun to watch it transform...I do love working on making a house our own!

I scream, you scream...

Zach screams for ice cream!  We went out for Zach's birthday and saw a movie and went to dinner.  He wanted to go to a buffet (somewhere we almost never go), and so we did!

He was excited for the ice cream and was impressed by his mom's mad ice cream cone making skills.  Happy Birthday Zach!

Hi ho, hi ho...

It's off to work we go!  This is how you know you've spent just a little too much time at the hardware store...when the kids start napping on the light fixtures!  With a full house renovation under way, they are getting lots of trips to the hardware store and lots of opportunities to work (and to be patient while we work)!

Here's Zach painting his room...

With a little guidance from Dad!

And here's Ava painting her closet pink!  She picked the color out and it looked great.  We'll add a little chandelier, her doll house and some other fun things and turn this walk in closet into more than just a space for her dresses!

Crocodile hunting!

We had the kids over at the new house and working in the yard when we came upon an old piece of wood that was in the grass.  It really looked like a crocodile!  It's a bit hard to tell in this picture, but when you put that in the grass, you'd swear you spotted something from down under in the corner of your eye!

The kids had a good time playing with it before we tossed it into the huge pile of treasures we found in the yard.  This particular treasure just added some fun along the way!

Mmmm...Summertime!

These vegetables looked so pretty to me when I was grilling them that I had to take a picture!  The Zollingers were in town and Jim loves his vegetables...so we feasted on the yumminess of summer!

Lori's Gymnastics Meet

Lori is in my ward and has been working to compete in the Special Olympics.  She does all around gymnastics and was very excited for her regional meet.  Debbie, Haylie and I went to support her and it was a really nice afternoon.  Lori did great and ended up winning 1st place overall.

She went to the state meet last weekend and did really well again.  She ended up getting 4 medals that she brought to church and showed all of us.  It was great to be a little, tiny part of her journey.

The end of another school year

The last week of school is always busy with activities and getting things wrapped up.  Here is the cafeteria - set up for a small reception after the 5th grade graduation.  I wish I would have taken a picture of the cake, because graduation was spelled wrong!  I got a knife out of the kitchen and carefully removed and reshaped the icing so it was spelled correctly...we were pretty amused!

The big field day (Fieldesta as it is called by the group of us planning) was the second to the last day of school this year.  There is dancing...

Bouncing...

Sliding...

Racing on obstacle courses...

Climbing...(There's Ava in the middle)

Games on the grass...

On the blacktop...

On the hill...

Look at all the kids having fun!

Here's Zach's class (Zach is wearing the green shirt with the black stripe on the side) playing a water game!  It was a great day and the kids had lots of fun...mission accomplished!

And then, there are always the teacher gifts!  This year we got a gift card for Ava's teacher and then made this frame for Zach's teacher.

He loved it!

Here is Ava with Mrs. Fisher.  All 3 of my kids had her for 1st grade.  It was another great year with her.  Goodbye to 6th, 4th, and 1st grade!!!
