Ministering gift

My ministering sister came and visited me this morning and brought me this sweet ornament as a gift. The interesting thing is that I was sitting on the couch this morning and noticed a "hole" in the ornaments on the tree and actually moved one ornament and a few branches a little to cover the space up, but it was still noticable to me. The ornament she brought was the perfect size for the "hole"...and the perfect little ministering gift for me!

The end of the seminary semester

Our seminary semester ended today with the kids working on their assessment and eating donuts and hot cocoa. They did a wonderful job on the assessment and were happy to be having some treats! We have a really great group of kids and feel really good about what we studied in the New Testament this semester. This makes 3 1/2 years of teaching for Greg and me, with at least another semester to go (although I wouldn't be surprised if they have us do a 5th year and finish with Ava). Let our Christmas break begin!

Christmas concert

Even though there are the Christmas Madrigal performances, there is still a Christmas concert with all of the choirs and that was last night. Here is Mr. L introducing the Chamber choir.

He also announced all of the students who had been selected for either the All-State Choir or the Honors All-State Choir. Ava is 3rd from the left.

At the end of the concert, all of the choirs combined and did a few songs. They sounded fantastic together.

They did one song with some hand motions that was especially fun and then ended with the Hallelujah Chorus...a perfect end to the Christmas concert season.

Quite the scare

Duke had a seizure, so I rushed him to the vet's office...his blood work came back fine...everything checked out...but they had to give him some anti-seizure medication to stop it. They aren't sure why it happened or if it will happen again, so now we just wait and see what comes next. This was him in the vet's office after the medication kicked in and he got his balance and mobility back.  He has been doing fine since then, so that's great. What a cute little guy...who gave us quite the scare!

Christmas lights

Greg got the rest of the Christmas lights up and I always love how the house looks when they're up. Merry Christmas for me!

Our Doodles

Singing tour

Ava's choir did the tour to the middle schools, some of the elementary schools, and a nursing home in our area. They are there to not only put on a concert, but to also show the students what the top choir is like and generate interest in the program. They really are a great choir, so I'm sure they got the interest and gave an awesome performance.

Here is Ava with her 8th grade choir teacher and the other kids who were students there. What a fun way to go back and see your old school!

It gets me every time

Every time I see the pictures from the James Webb telescope, I am completely taken by how beautiful they are. Simply amazing.

Morey love

We went to the Moreys for dinner on Sunday night and they asked us to bring Duke along (they watch him when we go out of town sometimes). Millie carried him around and babied him the whole time...Duke was definitely feeling the Morey love!

4 French hens

Yes, I know there are only 3 French hens, but I need one for myself and each of the kids...so I needed to make 4! This year's ornament is now complete...I think I'm down to wrapping presents, baking, and cooking!

Missing Greek breakfast

So I have started eating plain Greek yogurt, honey, nuts and dried fruit sometimes for lunch...something we had for breakfast on vacation. It is so satisfying and tasty...and for now, it's as close as I'm going to get to the delicious Greek breakfasts we had on vacation.

A new companion & a Joe Burrow look alike

This is Zach's new companion, Elder Lorenzo. Zach has only been in his new area for a couple of days, but I guess he already has a reputation for looking like Joe Burrow, the quarterback for the Bengals.

While I don't think they are twins, I can see how someone would think they have a similar look. Kind of fun to have someone think you look like a famous athlete...it could definitely be worse!

Bonus choir photos

I was looking on the choir facebook page and saw some pictures that I hadn't seen before.

And pictures from a field trip the choirs took in the fall...

Honors All State Choir

I am so excited for Ava! She was selected for the Honors All State Chorus!! She keeps telling us that it isn't that big of a deal, but it is. The singers are selected from the same audition that gets them into the District Choir, and then their performance during participation in that choir is also considered. If you move on, you can be selected for All State or Honors All State...we are so very proud of all of her hard work! Congratulations Ava!

A sweet message

I got a text message from this man who took the missionaries out in El Salvador. I'm not sure why he was there, but I'm grateful for his willingness to take care of the missionaries, give Zach a nice meal, and send us a picture. What a sweet message to get!

This is what recovery looks like...

After a long weekend with very late nights and an early drive to the airport, Greg needed a little recovery time...about 2 hours of it!

That's some crazy Christmas spirit

We pass this house on the way to church...

Here it is at night...

It's got some super crazy Christmas spirit going on.

Saturday afternoon Madrigals & a visit

Time for one last show...

At each show, they call up a group of people and have them sing (they don't know it's going to happen). They called up all NCHS students and teachers at this show and it happened to be the show where our youth group came. So, we had 5 of our seminary students in the show and the other 3 got to do a surprise performance song! So fun!

The show does a good job of having serious songs and silly moments...this is definitely a silly one.

The final 'Silent Night' of the Madrigal's season. It's such a beautiful moment in the show.

All of the youth and leaders from church who came to support the singers.

After the show, Debbie, Dylan, and Summer went home so Dylan and Summer could work on homework and Greg, Andrew, Kayleigh, and I helped strike the set. It took about 2 hours, which is a new record, and then we came home and Ava went to the cast party.

Summer and Dylan were having some cuddle time with Duke while doing homework.

We had reservatons for dinner and stayed there talking until we were just about the last ones there. Then, we came home and talked some more! Eventually, Kayleigh and Debbie fell asleep. Ava came home close to 1 a.m. and Kayleigh caught a second wind. Everyone except for Debbie was up past 3:00.

The next morning, everyone got up and said goodbye to these four. Greg drove them to Chicago to catch their flight and Debbie left soon after to drive back to Minnesota. My heart was so full to have them here and a little heart broken to have them leave. It meant the world to me that they came...it was so special for Ava and for all of us. What a wonderful weekend together!

Saturday morning Madrigals & a visit

We had a nice, slow morning and a brunch with cinnamon scones, eggs, bacon, and fruit. Then Greg and I went to the 1:00 Madrigal's show.

When we got home, Andrew and Dylan were outside playing basketball...

And Kayleigh and Summer were inside taking little afternoon naps. We ended up playing some games and hanging out for a few hours before all heading to the 4:30 show.
