Roadtripping to Utah

Well, the time finally came to take Zach out to BYU. We packed the car - really, really full - and then headed out! BYU or bust!

This was the view for quite a while...open farm land and wind mills.

The happy travelers!

We decided to stop in Lincoln, Nebraska so Greg could show Zach Union College. Here they are out in front of the main building.

It's a small campus, so we were able to drive through and around campus and see most of the buildings.

Here are Zach and Greg outside of Greg's dorm. He showed us which room was his and told the story of launching water balloons from the window into the quad!

We drove over to the University of Nebraska too - where Greg took some of his marketing and business classes.

And, maybe the most exciting part of the whole road trip out for Greg, we stopped and got Runzas! Greg loves these little meat filled pockets...it was actually pretty darn tasty!

How can you resist a ride on the dinosaur when you see it all saddled up?

You can't, you really can't!

We pulled off the road to change seats and there was a prarie dog looking out. It went down into it's hole, but Zach got out to look...there were a ton of holes...he left a little bit of popcorn for the little guy!

Pretty soon, we started to see mountains!

There were plenty of great clouds along the way too...what does this look like to you? Zach (and Ava because we texted her a picture) both said this was a weiner dog...it was an anteater to me!

Now the mountains are getting bigger and closer!

Welcome to Utah!

We are finally here! It was a long 2 days of driving, but we didn't have any issues at all and it really wasn't too bad, we were totally blessed with great weather and safety along the way. Welcome to Utah Zach!

Looking retro!

Greg brought home these blue light blocker glasses and Zach was sporting them and looking ultra retro! I love this picture!

Oh, very funny

I told the kids I wanted to take a picture of them when we were at dinner, so they both picked up their phones...very funny!

This was our last night out together before Zach left for school. We went and had a little Red Robin and just enjoyed being together. We sure are going to miss Zach around here!

Amazing skies

Cuties!

Time for a hair change

Zach is ready to cut the longer locks...

He gave me a picture of what he wanted and I did my best to recreate it...I think he looks fantastic!

A day or two later, the front of his hair had fallen and he reminded me of a 1980's George Michael. I made him pull up a picture...can you tell that I was more entertained by the thought of it than he was?

Zach has had quite a range of hair cuts and is lucky enough to have great hair...this is just another in a long line!

One last week

Every week at church I walk by Andrew's missionary plaque and think of him, but this is the last week! The next time I go to church in our ward building, he will be home from Bolivia and back at BYU. I am so excited to see him in person, and take this plaque home!

The boys!

Zach has had the most wonderful group of friends the past two years. These are the boys...having one more guy's night before half of them head out to college. Nick, Andrew, Zach, Gibson, Ethan, Christian, and Killian...what a great group!

A paying gig

Zach was asked to come and sing a song and do a dance from Grease for an event. It was his first paying singing/dancing gig! He has done some other stuff outside of school, but it was all volunteer. This is just a video that his friend took while they were practicing. It's so fun that he got to do something he really enjoys and got paid for it!

Beams of Light

Ava took this amazing picture and captured the beams of light that we spreading through the sky. Absolutely beautiful!

Back to school

Ava had her back to school day and asked Zach if he would come with her to walk her classes. He is a good big brother and said yes!

These two were so cute at the school together. I know Ava is really going to miss having Zach there with her.

It was sweet that they had one more day together there!

Poor little doggy

Somehow Duke got spooked a few weeks ago and really hasn't wanted to be in his kennel. We have tried all kinds of things, but he just cries and barks when he goes in. It means that he isn't sleeping well at night and so he is extra tired during the day. Poor little doggy. I wish we could just talk to him and figure out what he would need to make things better.

I never thought we would have a dog sleeping in our room, but we just feel so bad for him and so he has been sleeping in the chair in our room at night.

Hopefully he will relax and start feeling more comfortable, but he will likely always be in our room at night now. It would be really hard to put him back in the kennel for the night. Ugh! Poor little doggy now has a spot in the master bedroom!

A trip to the Northland

Greg's family reunion was in Two Harbors and we made the trip up to the northland for a long weekend.

It's always beautiful when you get up north! We spent the first evening at Bruce and Lindsay's house and then got to the Gore's house late on Thursday night after the family party was over.

The next morning Elsie hosted a breakfast with friends from church. Cute Shari, oh how I miss her!

Not everyone could make it, but I was super happy that everyone got invited and that I got to spend time with those that could make it.

Adding, Greg, Zach, Ava and Richard into the group!

The next day we went to the lake, how very Minnesota of us, and some little tiny frogs were found by this cutie!

Posing for a kiss with the frog!

Frankie was out playing basketball with the big boys and came in so sweaty and dirty and happy!

By the end of the night we had tuckered DeAnna right out!

There was a tall ship festival in Two Harbors for the weekend. They were expecting a huge group of tourists, but I think it was more managable than predicted, which was really nice for us.

The big rubber ducky was in town too!

Less tourists meant that we could all go into town together and take over the Dairy Queen - and Ken was nice enough to treat us all!

We also got to spend a little bit of time with the Gores each night, but the kids had been at FSY until Saturday morning, so all of the kids made the most of it on Saturday night!

Here is a collage of Bacon/Gore pictures through the years that the kids made when they were together!

And here is a picture of Mark, Zach, and Andrew that was being circulated at the family reunion...I love this picture!

It was a whirlwind trip, in on Thursday and out on Sunday, but Cortney sent us home with good snacks, which made the car ride home a little easier and tastier!

We had a nice time seeing everyone and look forward to being able to go back again next year - hopefully for a little bit longer and hopefully with Andrew too!
