Our snuggle bug

Our crazy traditions live on

Years and years ago we started the tradition of running around the house barefoot in the first snow of the season and coming in to have hot soup and rolls. I honestly can't remember how the craziness started, but we have certainly kept it going.

Zach and Greg headed out first...

There is a fine line between fun and pain in this tradition, but the laughter wins out!

Duke was also very excited to see the shenanigans!

Ava and I went next!

It makes for cold feet and lots of huffing and puffing!

But I swear they are the best rolls and soup of the year!

Long live the snow run!

New Year's Eve - Bob Ross style

Zach had a New Year's Eve party to go to this year and so it was Greg, Ava, and me for the night. I thought it might be fun to do an activity together and had the idea to try a Bob Ross painting. I have never done one before, but have always wanted to. The three of us went to the store and got the supplies and then got set up!

Then it was time to turn on Bob! We would play a little bit and then pause the show and try to duplicate what he was doing.

Here is the beginning of my painting...happy little trees!

Making progress...

Working on the water...

My finished painting!

Our masterpieces!

Ava's finished painting...

And Greg's!

We had a lot of fun making our pictures and also had plenty of time for New Year's Eve treats, cookies, and sparkling juice. It was a really great way to ring in the New Year! Here's to 2022!

Partridges and Pears

I didn't get all four sets (one for each of the kids and one for me and Greg) of ornaments finished before Christmas, but I had one to put under the tree. Over the next week, I worked on them quite a bit and met my goal of getting them done before New Year's Eve. Here are the finished sets...

They were done just in time to be put away for next year! On to turtle doves!

From Tucson, Arizona to Santa Cruz, Bolivia

The time has finally come! Andrew's visa came and he is leaving his mission in Tucson, Arizona and heading out to Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Andrew has loved Tucson, and has often said that he would be content if he was asked to serve his entire mission there, but he is also very excited to finally get to his original assignment and experience another culture while he serves.

Saying goodbyes...

Andrew and President Grisel

With his last Tucson companion!

I got Andrew's itinerary from the mission office and was able to watch the progress of his flight to Bolivia...

I went to bed very late, but it was still about an hour before he arrived. He called us the next afternoon and let us know he got there and was settled in. He sounded great and we couldn't be more excited for him!

Here he is with the other missionaries who came in with him and President Stanford. We can't wait to hear all about his experiences there and hope it will be as wonderful as Tucson!

Thanks to Tresa

My friend Tresa has a beautiful tree at her house with Santas from around the world on it. I had never seen these before and fell in love with them! She has so many, but I thought it would be fun to collect the ones that represent our ancestry. We got Scotland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and England. We could get more, but this is a pretty good cross section for both Greg and me. I really love them and was excited to add them to the tree this year!

A little disturbing

Ava peeled off her nail polish and was able to keep some of it whole. She put two of the nail polish forms on top of Greg's nails. Let's just say it's not my favorite look on Greg!

A really fun purse

Susie and Bindi sent me this purse for Christmas - and got themselves matching ones that look somewhat like them. It's a really fun, surprise present!

Christmas Day

Christmas morning! We always start with our traditional pictures...

Then we added a few more...

Duke was really excited about the paper and the boxes, so we didn't make him wait for very long. We got into our stockings and the started on some gifts next.

With some treats mixed in!

There is always a whole lot of love going around too!

Duke was really excited to open his gift...

There is always some modeling too...

Beth and my parents sent their love (along with their gifts)...

And Andrea sent us a couple of new games to try out.

There were some more clothes to try on...

And then some things to set up, put together, and enjoy!

Andrew called while we were opening gifts and we got to spend about an hour on the phone with him. It was nice to have him "home" for a little bit and to share some of Christmas morning together. He was happy and had plans to go to a member's house for Christmas and have tamales. We were grateful he was being taken care of.

I headed back into the kitchen for the last cooking of the holiday season...quiche and cinnamon rolls!

We had a very Merry Christmas!
