4th Grade Recorder Concert...

Yesterday was Andrew's recorder concert.  They have been learning how to read sheet music and how to play the recorder for the past few months (I swear some things never change...I learned the recorder at about the same age).  Andrew has been taking guitar lessons for about 8 months and so this was all review for him, but for some kids it was a big challenge.  A few of my friends talked about the endless, somewhat torturous practice at home - lucky for me, Andrew literally never even brought his recorder home!

Here is one of the numbers they played...and to be fair, it was the hardest one they played - so it was by far the most scattered in places...but seriously, listen at your own risk!  This is a 4th grade recorder concert and it sounds like it!

This isn't even a joke...5th grade...ukuleles!!

Origami flower ball

A few weeks ago there was a stake training where I was teaching a lesson on enduring.  As part of the lesson I showed them an origami table decoration like this and talked about how even though it seemed like an elaborate and time consuming effort, once you knew what you should be doing, it was really just done one fold at a time...then it was just a matter of enduring!  That table decoration actually didn't turn out exactly how I wanted it to (and in an ironic twist with my topic, I had to stay up until 4 am to finish it).  So...I wanted to do one more...just to get it right!

This one turned out just how I hoped it would.  I'm going to hang it with a nice ribbon somewhere in my craft room...it was worth the second chance at the enduring!

Add catering to my resume!

Can anyone say cream puff?  One of my friends asked if I would do the food at her daughter's wedding...and so I did!  But not alone!  Mim, Tami and I did all of the food together and Nikki came to help us all day on the day of the wedding.  I didn't take enough pictures, but these at least give some idea of what we did.  It all started with 600 cream puffs!  Oh yeah, 600.  We filled 400 with chicken salad and 200 with pastry cream (and topped with ganache - of course)!  This is a picture of them on my kitchen table...there were more on my countertops!

Here are the 2 different types of fruit skewers we did - who knows why I took a picture of the top one before they were arranged, but I did!

The bride and groom have some type of a joke about sweet potatoes and so we made sweet potato fries and served them with chipotle mayo.  They were so yummy!

Brie, boursin, smoked salmon and crackers...

And these individual caprese salad appitizers.  These were heavenly!

It was a ton of work, but everything turned out really well and tasted great...what more could you want?  Except a massage after the day was done!  Now I can add catering to my ever growing hodge podge resume!

I love it when everything is flowering!

This is one of my favorite times of year!  Bleeding hearts...

Flowering trees...

Potted plants coming back...

And popcorn popping on the trees in the back yard!

The blue and gold banquet

Friday night was the Blue and Gold Banquet.  Andrew, Owen and Orion all got their Arrow of Light award and Andrew and Orion also got their Religious Square Knots.  Then they "crossed over" to boy scouts!

The boys stood and posed for one "nice" picture - although it was all they could do to appease me!

This is what they really wanted to do!

That night when we got home I sewed Andrew's last badges on his shirt and put it in a shadow box I bought a few weeks earlier.

I also did one for the extra badges and belt loops that he got.  It was so fun to show him in the morning.  We hung them up and it has been a nice way to see what he worked on for 3 years.  Zach will be starting in just another month or so and in September Andrew will start boy scouts.  The end of one chapter and the beginning of another!

I'm Bob Barker

I have no idea where Ava got this from, but it is really funny to me (which is probably why she keeps doing it).  But she puts a comb under her nose like a mustache and in her best man voice she announces that she is Bob Barker.  I don't know why Bob Barker - he doesn't even have a mustache - but whatever the reason, I am a fan!

Working out in the laundry room??

I hadn't seen these pictures until they were downloaded from Greg's phone.  I have no idea why the kids all decided to lift weights in the laundry room (or when), but I guess they did!

Doesn't that look like a comfortable workout mat?

The boys have nothing on Ava!  I think she's lifting the same amount.  What a beautiful gym facility we have!

Running away to join the circus

We took the kids to the circus and had seats right on the front row.  It made it really fun because during the breaks we could easily go out on the floor (not to mention we had a great view of the acts).  Here is one of the clowns that stopped and took a picture with the kids.

And what circus outing would be complete without cotton candy??

Of course we needed to get the pink and the blue kind!

The kids also had a chance to ride an elephant!  This is the elephant that starred in 'Like Water for Elephants'.  Who knew we would meet a famous elephant??

We have some crazy eyes in this picture, but I thought it was cute anyway and I swear even the elephant is looking right at the camera!
