Strike a pose...

This should be in the marathon post about Hutchinson, but I decided to post it seperately. While we were taking pictures one day I asked Ava to strike a pose and I gave her a little example. This was her enterpretation of my pose - it was actually pretty close! I love this picture...'what are you lookin' at? Vogue, vouge...'

So just how does Net Flix make money?

If you answered, "Greg and Sandy Bacon", then you are very, very right! About 9 months ago I decided that I wanted to try Net Flix. I signed us up for the $8/month deal and away we went. During the first 6 weeks we probably watched 4 movies. That is actually kind of a lot for us and so we weren't surprized to slow down a bit.

However, 3 months for 1 movie is quite the slow down! We finally got around to watching 'Pirates of the Caribbean' (a movie that we missed when one of the kids was born) and sent it back. A few days later we got 'Batman Begins' in the mail. I had heard good things about the movie and we were excited to watch it...but, obviously not too excited because we finally watched it on Friday night...a mere 5 months after receiving it. Oh no, you read correctly - 5 months!!

My only comfort in the situation is that I figure that even though we could have bought the movie on DVD twice for the $40 we paid, we couldn't have seen it in the theater and paid a babysitter for $40...that makes me feel a little bit better.

Greg and I had a good laugh about it and decided that we should probably cancel (sending the Net Flix people into a sobbing fit), so I logged onto the website only to see that the next Batman movie, 'Dark Night' is next to be sent...well, I couldn't resist and decided not to cancel (turning the Net Flix people's tears of sorrow into tears of joy).

I'm hoping that we do quite a bit better this time around, but if you hear that the Net Flix people got a major Christmas bonus, you'll know how.

Hutchinson (this should be 5 posts)

A few weeks ago we went to Hutchinson for the weekend. Cyndi and Dick have a great property and have so much fun stuff to do...it's like going on a little farm adventure for the weekend! Here's their house...

And their barn...

In the back pasture, the ponies rule the roost! The kids love going back there and this time there was lots of corn for them to feed the ponies - that made everyone happy!

On to other animals...

Cyndi and Dick got a calf as a gift from their in-laws and have been bottle feeding it. Andrew was really, really excited to get a chance to feed it too. It was such a huge bottle, but only takes the calf about a minute and a half to drink the whole thing!!

I love this picture...I want to send it in to 'Cute Farming' magazine...let me know if that exists!

We also spent time at Ed and Doris' house. They have a big apple tree that was so overloaded with apples, that some of the branches were almost touching the ground. We picked quite a few apples and I brought them home and made apple butter...that's a whole different story in itself...
anyway...
When we were at Ed and Doris' house, Ava had so much fun walking Brittany's dog Eliza. She just couldn't get over the exciting fact the Eliza was wearing pink too! Poor Eliza...she had a big, big fan the entire time we were in Hutch.
Even after Ava got tired of walking her, she definitely didn't want to let go of the leash!

There is a natural reserve park in Hutchinson and the boys went over to feed the deer the "left over" apples from Ed and Doris' tree. They had a great time (and so did the deer).

On one of the nights, everyone met at Cyndi and Dick's house for a bonfire. We roasted hot dogs and had smores...a perfect treat.

Ava didn't want to leave the dogs alone...are you noticing a theme here?

Their dog, Yellow, is the best. He is so gentle with the kids and has always loved Andrew. I have a great picture of Andrew laying on Yellow when he was 4...this will be a nice one to add the 'Andrew and Yellow' collection.

The next morning, we were on to the really, really good stuff! Here is Cyndi and Dick's beautiful garden! It is a massive and amazing place. There is a big section for both flowers and for fruits and vegetables.

These are the tomatoes that Dick and Andrew picked for us to make salsa! They also picked the onions and peppers - you can't get much fresher than that!

They finally made the long walk from the garden into the kitchen and the salsa-ing began! We actually ran out of time and so I brought my salsa home in a pot and then canned it that night at my house. It turned out really great and we had a wonderful time making it.

So...that was our trip to Hutchinson...very full, very fun, and very delicious!

Now, I've never seen 'Children of the Corn', but I'm pretty sure...

Okay, okay, you're not grounded...

Yes, you can watch just one more show...

Now you - you I'm not so afraid of...

You, alittle more afraid...

You, very afraid...

Ahhh, there's my sweet little vampire child that I know and love...

65 hours of paint on the house, 65 hours of paint, you scrape some off, put some more on, 65 hours of paint on the house

Believe it or not, this is the finished product! All of the green on the back of the house has been scraped, caulked, primed and painted. The crazy thing about a project like this is that now it just looks like it is supposed to instead of looking like all of the shutters and windows are about to fall off of the house...so there really isn't a "wow" factor to the project (except to those of us who know how bad it really was).

Here I am high in the sky! If you notice all of the little "teeth" around the peaks, you may shed a little tear for me as you imagine scraping and painting each one...

This gives a better perspective of how high I really was for a good part of this week. Even though the lift was very stable, it was still high enough that there was quite a bit of sway to it. When I would get off at night and close my eyes, I could still feel myself moving!

I chose the 'Bottles of Beer' rendition because that is a little what this project felt like...torturous!! Ah well, it's done now...and we are all very, very happy about that!

I just can't help myself...

I thought Ava was so cute in this little outfit - I just had to take pictures and post them! She is getting so big (both literally by size and also just seeming big) - I just want to capture her while she's still little...my little, tiny Miss!

Fruit Pizza - yummy yummy (sung to the tune of Fruit Salad)

This is probably the last really good fresh fruit dessert I'll make this season (sad for me). This had a cream cheese, whipped cream and lemon topping on Sister Bankhead's sugar cookie base...delicious!!

School's In!

Well, the tiny bros are off to school! Andrew is in 2nd grade and Zach has started Kindergarten. Zach was so cute on the first morning, he was just bouncing around at the bus stop...it was very cute. Andrew was a little less excited, but still happy (we'll take it). When Zach got home after his first day he said, "This was the most perfect day ever"...that's a pretty good review!

This was while they were waiting for the bus...Zach and Andrew had their new water bottles from Switzerland (brought by our friends visiting from Germany)

Walking from the house with the neighbor across the street on the first day...they were so excited that they didn't even wait for us...we had to catch up!

Off they go!!
