Ava's choir concert

This is the 6th grade choir and they did a fantastic job!

Ava has some wonderful friends in choir too - that makes it all the better!

A little sample!

A little more...

And one final clip!

Birthday love

Greg was out of town for my birthday and I knew we were going to celebrate with friends when he got back, but I didn't anticipate all of the birthday love my friends would show me.  Flowers, yummy bread, a visit to the temple, a surprise cake, multiple visits, more flowers, candy, more visits...calls...cards...it went on and on.  I was well cared for and well loved!

Let them eat cake!

We had a really fun YM/YW activity where the kids were split up into groups and were asked to decorate a cake using a scripture story.  We had lots and lots of stuff to decorate with and the kids did a great job!

The parting of the Red Sea...complete with chariots!

The disciples catching fish...

You know it had to be in here...yep, that's a bloody, severed hand and some sheep!

A house built on sand and on a rock...

A coat of many colors...

The tree of life...

Jesus walking on water...

and another tree of life cake.

Here is a close up of the sheep...I thought they were so cute!

We were all really impressed by what the kids did.  They shared the stories and a scripture as well.  It was really fun.

A few of my Laurels that found the left over frosting!  We had a lot of fun and at the end, we let them eat cake!  Lots and lots of cake!

A birthday lunch with friends

I went out to lunch with Gina, Karen and Stephanie and this yummy dessert with fun candles came out.  They were so cute that I saved them!  We had a wonderful time celebrating together and had a great lunch too.

The cutest vases

Greg had to go on a business trip during my birthday week, so he brought me some flowers and these cute vases before he left.  I think they are awesome!  They could be really fun with different flowers too.  I'm excited for spring and to put a gerbera daisy in one!

A birthday night out

The Massela sisters took me out for my birthday to a Prince concert that is touring the country.  The band meets up with local symphonies and they put the concert on together.  This one was with the Indianapolis Symphony.

They have done some really great arrangements of the music and have used some more obscure songs - along with the biggest hits - to make it really fun.

Bindi, me and Susie

We got Rose in this picture too (and a big Prince head)!  It was a great concert and I loved going with them.  We went to a great restaurant after the concert and topped the night off talking and enjoying each other's company.  I love these girls.  It was a perfect birthday celebration.

Just one more thing to see

Millennium Park!  This is one half of Crown Fountain.

And this is Cloud Gate or "the bean".  We got some really fun pictures here.

It was the perfect way to end our trip to Chicago.  We had a wonderful time and were really happy to get to spend time being tourists together instead of just flying in and out of the city.

We made it home in time for Ava to make it to her friend's birthday party - which is why we left on Saturday morning.  It was the the best of both worlds for our fall break and we are so glad everything worked out just how we hoped.

Another Chicago Day!

We got up and headed to the Science Museum.  The Sanchez family decided to spend the day with us again and we were thrilled - we met them inside.

They had a fun display where you could be timed trying to get the gear on a cow to be able to milk it.  Greg was fast!  That's his country boy coming out.

I loved this shadow garden where your shadows could catch the falling pieces.  I'm not sure how they do it, but we sure enjoyed playing with it.

I always have a hard time passing these things up.  Zach made for a sad little side kick to Ellie and Grayson made the cutest astronaut!

When you get to the center of the museum, you look down the hallways and can see the theme of that area and the awesome displays.  Here are the views...

We went into a mirror maze and had a lot of fun.  It's crazy how hard it is to tell if there is an opening or a mirror in your way - we had a lot of laughs in there too!  Here is Sergio...when in doubt, stand still!

This was a really fun display too.  It measured your body and showed you how close you were to the average body ratios.  It gave fun statistics and everyone wanted to try it out.

This rock wall was calling the boys' names too.

This light box was fun too.  All the colors could be added in one at a time or in different arrangements.  It would make some amazing party lighting.

There was a big electricity display too.  You should hear the sound that this thing put off!

Into the hurricane booth!  It's really fun to feel the wind whipping!

I loved watching this thing too.  It was in the weather area and was spinning and showing how avalanches occur.  It was kind of mesmorizing.

We left the museum and quickly headed to a bakery that I wanted to try.  We picked up 2 boxes of treats for the families and then met the Sanchezes back at an escape room.

This was the lobby where you could put a pin in the map to show where you were from.  I love this picture.  The kids decided that they wanted to go in a room with just them and see if they could beat the parents.  We were up for the challenge.

We rocked it!  Both groups!  The parents finished first and without any hints, but the kids had a harder room and still made it out!  I have done 2 other escape rooms before this one and they didn't hold a candle to this room.  There were some really cool features and it was so well thought out.  I loved it.

The whole gang!

We left the escape room and headed to Lincoln Park to a deep dish pizza place that was recommended to us.  It delivered!  It also took a really long time, but was worth the wait.  After dinner we walked back to our place and talked and played games for a few hours.  We also ate the treats we had picked up from the bakery earlier in the day.

This time it was the Sanchez family that left around midnight and got back to their place really late.  It was so fun to spend 2 entire days together and it was all impromtu...we loved it!
