So brave

Ava's school is holding auditions for the musical they will be doing this year.  It is really uncommon for a 6th grader to get a part, but she and a few friends have decided to audition anyway.  She has to prepare a monologue, a solo and learn a dance.  They each have an audition time where they will be in front of 3 judges and the other 9 students auditioning in that time slot.  No parents allowed.  She has been practicing and is hoping that if she doesn't make it this year, it will show her teacher that she is serious about making it when she is older.  She also hopes to get selected to do make-up if she doesn't make the cast.  She is a brave girl!

Trek video

Here is the youtube link to our trek video.  There was a fireside on Sunday night and they played it for us.  It's only 10 minutes of 3 days, but it brings back a lot of memories.

Game time

Ava had her first volleyball game on Saturday.  They won the first match, lost the second and finished the third, down by 1.  It was as close as it gets!

Ava had a great game, served well and scored some points.  She is really enjoying playing again this year and I think she is going to have a great season with her team.

Dream mower

Before you get too excited for me, this is just a loaner.  Greg brought home a mower for one of our friends to try out.  They have a couple of acres and are looking for a big mower to make things easier.  We got to try it out though!

After Zach got done driving, I mowed the main part of the lawn and then Greg went and did some touch up and the small strip by the road (I was a little nervous to do that).

It is crazy, because it only took about 15 minutes to mow our entire lawn!  It would have been significantly faster if I had ever driven anything like this before.  Our friends did end up buying it, so who know...maybe I'll get the opportunity to try it again some time!

Talk to us DNA

Greg and I decided to do the DNA testing through Ancestry.com.  We have some friends that have been pretty surprised by their results and some that have found siblings and other relatives they didn't even know they had.  While we aren't expecting to be too surprised, we are really curious to get a better look at what our ancestry really is.

We will know in about 6 - 8 weeks!  Let's see what the DNA can tell us!

Youth temple trip

We had our biggest group ever at the youth temple trip this week.  We had 30 youth!  The boys have been helping me do family history each Sunday and between what Debbie and I did and what they have done, we had 12 names for them to take to the temple.

It was a wonderful night with a fantastic group of youth.

Volleyball season

Ava had her first volleyball practice on Monday night.  Her coach is really nice and she has a great group of girls on her team.  She is excited to get started and has her first game this weekend.  Let the volleyball begin!

Auditioning

Since Geneil moved, I needed to find another partner for recording books for Indiana Voices.  My friend Roxanne thought it sounded fun and was willing to fill out the paperwork and come in to audition for Linden.  He runs the program and has the final say.

Roxanne did a great job and got Linden's seal of approval!  She is my new partner and we are going to keep our Monday time slot.  I'm excited to keep going on this project and am especially excited to be able to keep doing it with a friend.

Cyndi Lauper and Rod Stewart

I went to this concert with friends and we had a great time.  They played all of the songs that made them so famous and that made for a really fun concert!

The venue was PACKED and the crowd was loving them.  I had a great time with Jerilyn and Sarah and we sang our hearts out!

Indiana State Fair 2018

Ava had her piano competition bright and early on Saturday morning.  The kids and I got up and headed to the fair and she was the first to perform.  She did a beautiful job and I was super proud of her.

We had quite a bit of time after she played before we needed to be back, so we headed out to see some of the fair.  I remember a similar Lego display from last year, it really is impressive!

These Bacon boys think Spam has nothing on them!

We looked at some of the cakes that were being judged.  Amazing.

The flowers on this cake looked so real!  With a little peek-a-boo from Zach, this cake was even more beautiful.

This farm scene was really fun too.

We had friends that told us not to miss the dairy barn.  We had grilled cheese and ice cream.  Both were yummy!

We spent quite a bit of time with the bunnies, chicks and ducklings.  Especially bunnies.

This little chick would follow your finger all over the cage.  It was really cute.

A big bunny!

These ducks were the cutest to me.  They were all huddled up and sleeping all over each other.  Precious.

I loved these chickens too.  Such cool chickens!!

Back to the bunnies.

This guys was showing the kids the difference between the different bunnies he had in the fair and let them touch the fur.  It was amazingly soft.  I don't know if I've ever felt anything as soft as the one species of bunny.

This rabbit and duck were a little scary - if I'm being honest.

I'm petrified.

We went past a display where people were doing some leather work.  This eagle was on display and I thought it was amazing.  They had really made the leather look like feathers.  It was impressive work.

Ava getting her ribbon!

We had a really fun day and she is excited to try to play there again next year!

The Brothers Bacon

Greg went on his annual motorcycle trip this past weekend.  They did 20 years with brothers and friends and then have done these past 2 years with just the brothers.  This was the only picture I got from the trip.  No motorcycles in sight, but a little love for the Sinclair dino!  They had a great time together and kept that Bacon brother bond strong!

A winged visitor

I love these bright, little birds that come right to my back porch.

They love the flowering basil.  I should go and cut all of the flowers off, but I like them coming, so I have been leaving it.

Dish about the day

We had our first YW night of the school year on the first day of school.  I told the girls we were just going to dish out some ice cream and dish about the day.  It was a very relaxed night where they could just chat and enjoy a treat.  I love these girls!
